Rut Training Class

Starting Date: To Be Announced

The Runner’s Edge and Run Wild Missoula are partnering up again to offer a summer trail running class designed to get you ready for the Rut Mountain Runs, or other late summer/early fall trail racing.  This 12-week class will meet twice a week, with a Thursday morning workout, as well as a Sunday morning long run. This class will cater towards the intermediate to advanced trail runner and is designed to get you ready for the dramatic changes in elevation that you’ll experience at the Rut.

Who is this class for:

We consider this class to be for intermediate to advanced trail runners who want to improve their climbing and descending skills in preparation for the Rut Mountain Runs, or similar style race. With that said, we suggest that participants have experience running on trails, can run up to the “M” with no walk/hiking breaks, and can run for an hour in duration.  If you believe this may be too much for you at your current level of fitness, we suggest you consider one of Run Wild Missoula’s fall trail classes (class offerings, dates and details to be determined).

Class Schedule:

To Be Announced. Please check back.

Class will meet twice a week:

  • Thursdays at 6:15 AM at Run Wild Missoula office (Basement of Runner’s Edge.  Please use back door on Thursday mornings.)
  • Sundays at 8:00 AM at various local trailheads.  To be announced in advance each week.

Thursday classes will be focused on doing a running workout while Sunday’s classes will be a long run with plenty of elevation and/or exposure.

Please bring water and nutrition for the Sunday long runs. It will be warm.

For the safety of other runners, please leave your dogs at home. Trails are narrow, and even more so with a group. Thank you!

Register: Please check back later to register.

Instead of charging directly for this class, we are suggesting a donation towards the building of the South Hills Spur Trails, which is being spearheaded by Five Valleys Land Trust.  Thanks for helping us give back to the open spaces we are so lucky to have in our backyards!  (Donations can be made on the registration page.)

Class instructors:

Forrest Boughner: A recent transplant from Flagstaff, AZ, you may have met Forrest working at the Runner’s Edge this year, or out on the trails training.  Among other accolades, Forrest was the 1st Montanan to finish the Rut 28K in 2015, and second at the 2016 Double Dip.  We are excited to now have Forrest as a part of our community, and even more so as the leader of this class.

In addition to Forrest, we will have different instructors from the community joining us each week to share their experience and knowledge.
